BEYOND THE RED WALL: THE PERSECUTION OF FALUN GONG

Go here for the latest on the saga of Beyond the Red Wall and Beijing dictating CBC to censor the movie. I'm not kidding. Upload the original movie here.

Tuesday November 6 at 10pm ET/PT and Saturday November 10 at 11pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld

Beyond the Red Wall focuses on the story of Canadian Kunlun Zhang, an artist and professor at McGill University, who was arrested and jailed for nearly three years in a Chinese labour camp. The film reveals testimony from Zhang and never-before-seen, startling footage smuggled out of China, re-creating the kind of torture that the Falun Gong movement claims is routine in Chinese prisons.

Falun Gong, an ancient method of exercise and meditation for health and well-being, was outlawed in China in 1999 by President Jiang Zemin. Since that time it is believed that over 200,000 followers of this spiritual movement may have been sent to Chinese jails, where many have been brutally tortured and at least 2,500 killed. While Chinese officials deny all claims of capturing, interrogating, imprisoning, beating and killing thousands of practitioners, Peter Rowe's Beyond the Red Wall offers evidence to dispute these claims.

The most shocking allegations, supported by a report co-authored by lawyer David Matas and David Kilgour, former Secretary of State for Asia-Pacific, are that Chinese authorities have removed the corneas, kidneys and other body parts from living prisoners for sale to Chinese and foreign buyers.

Beyond The Red Wall: The Persecution of Falun Gong is written, produced and directed by Peter Rowe (Toronto). It is produced in association with CBC Newsworld.

I'm extremely interested in this film. There appears to be an opportunity to "upload [download?]the original movie here, but it only leads to a one minute video. That's a start :-). Any way we can see the whole thing?

It was on YouTube for a while, but it's gone now. I was lucky to see it just hours before it got taken down. The 'uncut' version was hard-hitting. But it's an open secrete that the CBC had been harassing the producer to make cuts to the film from the very early stages of negotiations. So in the end it still wasn't an 'uncut' version.
